The Presence of Absence (2023) is a short film that displays the complexity of memories in an attempt to release their bondage. It follows a character watching found footage of her past, trying to replay and relive the experiences through a projector. The project aims to expose how finding comfort and emotional attachments to these memories are unreliable, enable destructive behaviours, and prevent growth.
My intent with the story is to explore the devastation of leaving behind adolescence and past relationships, and the mental battle to let go of these connections because of possessiveness. I want to encourage viewers to embrace the past while gently letting it go.
